Seemingly out of nowhere, a report states that Kirby Smart has added former South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp to his staff.

Who saw this news coming? After being fired by the South Carolina Gamecocks in November, Will Muschamp began the search for a new job. Well, it’s looking like the veteran coach has landed back at his alma mater.

Per a report, Muschamp is in Athens and has joined Kirby Smart’s staff with the Georgia Bulldogs. While it hasn’t been made clear what Muschamp’s role with the team is, he’s been spotted on campus throughout the week entering the team’s football facility. Holy smokes.

Will Muschamp has finally made his way home to the Georgia Bulldogs

This is a homecoming for Muschamp, as he used to be a standout safety for the team. He walked on in 1991 and then was a team captain his senior year in 1994. His son is also currently on the team as a redshirt-freshman quarterback.

As happy as Georgia fans are to have Muschamp back in Athens, it really is up in the air what his position with the team will be. He could wait for a position coach job to open up, or he could end up working in an off-field support role. Regardless, this is an exciting addition for Smart, who has had nothing but good news arrive this offseason.

That’s because JT Daniels, Zamir White and others have announced they’ll be returning to the team next season. Georgia is looking like a serious threat in the SEC already for 2021, as they’ll hope to get back to the College Football Playoff.

While things didn’t quite work out for Muschamp at South Carolina, he’s got the chance to get his career back on track at Georgia. This has feel-good story written all over it.
